Time's moving faster and all of this shit's piling down on me

I remember sleeping peacefully in my bed
When I was startled by the cops, the barking of their dogs
They were there to commit robbery and kidnap my friend.

I try not to pretend like I've got the answer somewhere between my bookends.

It's no surprise we feel stretched pretty thin.
Molded into workers from child-rearing.
Expected to perform and fulfill a niche.

The sense of paranoia's no coincidence,
It's programmed cognitive dissonance.
All through adolescence I recall a distaste for authority,
The law, and anyone trying to get in.

I try not to pretend like I've got the answer somewhere between my bookends.
While this shit's going south, we'll be talking it out.
Together we stand better chances now of doubling down.

Even from a youth I was feeling duped.
It seems no one wants to face the truth.
There's no pile of gold at the end of the rainbow -
Only a pile of trash with birthday candles.
All these ideas coming from brain stew
Of another broken human being just like you.
Beaten so bad, we can never recover
But the best we can do is be there for each other in the end.
